Do not PROcrastinate!
Procrastination is everyone’s problem because we all
procrastinate one way or the other.
I guess the question to ask is ‘What is Procrastination’?
Simply put procrastination is doing tomorrow or another time what can be done
immediately or now. Everyone
procrastinates one way or the other even though the truly successful people
have learnt not to procrastinate because procrastination is the thief of time
and it is the monster that we must all love to hate.
Every day we procrastinate. People procrastinate,
organisations procrastinate, governments and nations procrastinate because we
always love to postpone things in our lives till later.
On a personal note I have had to battle procrastination to a
standstill and it is still a battle because sometimes I choose to wake up by
9am instead of the normal 4am so I can get time to pray and properly prepare for
the day. We procrastinate because of many reasons including but not limited to
laziness, tiredness, lame excuses, peer pressure and even sickness.
The effects of procrastination include failure, stagnation,
limitation, regrets and poor lifestyles to mention a few and procrastination
can become a killer of our collective destinies.
Recently in Nigeria, the Nigerian government choose to
procrastinate about two main issues which include the abduction of the Chibok
girls and also the fighting and eradication of the insurgents called Boko
Haram. These two issues have become a thorny issue in our political life
because the then Jonathan led government decided to procrastinate rather than
take decisive actions in these two matters of state. We are still paying for these two issues
because we are faced with the disappearance of over 200 young girls from a
certain part of Nigeria and we have a lack of peace in our nation because of
these two scenarios.
Procrastination is subtle but can be deadly, a silent killer
of destiny because when we procrastinate we are working in cooperation with
nature to destroy our lives. We must
work hard to stop the menace called procrastination by learning to always take
decisive actions as and at when due.
We must learn to always say NO! to procrastination. We must
learn to disagree with the lazy side of our nature and say Yes to creativity
and activity. We must be quick to take decisions especially when we do not have
time to waste in deciding. We must be hard working and smart always. We must desist from enjoying the menace
called laziness because it is the biggest reason why we daily procrastinate.
Procrastination is also a habit. We must learn to replace this habit in our
lives with creativity, innovation and hard work. We must plan our time and time
our plans. We must organize our lifestyles and refrain from anything that will
cause us to procrastinate. We must learn to never delay and always do it
NOW! Success is a minute away when we
learn to say No! to procrastination.
It is now up to us to say NO more procrastination in our
lives as from today.
